Parallel Chord MPC Wood Truss App
Please read carefully before viewing this map to understand its intent and limitations.
This map displays commercial properties having flat roof buildings constructed from 1970 to 1995. The MOA has reason to believe buildings with flat roofs constructed during this period may have been built with metal plate connected (MPC) wood roof trusses. These trusses have been the cause of a significant number of roof failures in winter 2022-2023 and 2023-2024. For more information on this type of construction, please see the Snow Removal Notice and Handout AG.30 on the MOA Development Services web page.
Important notes regarding the information on this map:
· The map does not mean the MOA is labeling a building as “safe” or “dangerous,” nor does it indicate the level of risk of roof collapse. As the snow continues to pile up, other types of construction may begin to fail under the excessive snow load. This map is only intended to track a single type of construction that has a known pattern of failure with relatively low snow loading.
· The map will be updated as we gather more information. The map will be updated once a day by 6AM.
· Once a property is confirmed to not have buildings with parallel chord MPC wood roof trusses, the property will be removed from the map.
· Roof failures identified on the map occurred winter 2022-2023 and 2023-2024.
· If a building has parallel chord MPC wood roof trusses, we recommend the building not be occupied until the snow is removed.
· Even if a building has parallel chord MPC wood roof trusses, if snow is removed from the roof and not allowed to accumulate, the chance of a roof collapse may decrease.
· Many of the properties contain multiple buildings. A property will show up on this map even if only one of the buildings has parallel chord MPC wood trusses.
· The map does not include residential buildings.
· The screening process used to develop this map utilized publicly available property appraisal data. Some properties may not have been included due to incomplete or inaccurate public information.
· This map does not depict a comprehensive list of potentially impacted properties.
